Acupuncture

The more your body hurts, the less you enjoy the things you love.

Regenerative medicine, such as prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, and acupuncture, may help you heal faster and get active sooner.

Eliminate the feeling of aging by regenerating and healing connective tissues that are essential for movements such as ligaments, tendons, and cartilage!

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a 3000-year-old Chinese medicine healing technique in which very thin sterile needles are inserted at specific points on the body. It remains a popular method to treat diseases along with conventional medical care. Research shows that it can alleviate body pains and is safe to use in a wide variety of conditions.

As a complementary and alternative medicine, acupuncture is highly effective in reducing chronic pain, including those associated with arthritis pain, headaches, knee pain, and more.

Modern research has also demonstrated acupuncture’s effects on the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system. By stimulating the body’s various systems, acupuncture can help resolve pain and improve sleep, digestive function, and sense of well-being.

Patients begin to notice the positive effects of acupuncture treatment as soon as they have had their first session. A few sessions are required for most conditions to fully reap the benefits of this oriental medicine.

How Acupuncture Treatment Works

acupuncture for back pain

Traditional Chinese Medicine (also known as oriental medicine) is based on an ancient philosophy that describes the universe, and the body, in terms of two opposing forces: yin and yang. When these forces are in balance, the body is healthy.

Energy, called “qi” flows along specific pathways, called meridians, throughout the body. This constant flow of energy keeps the yin and yang forces balanced. However, if the flow of energy gets blocked, like water getting stuck behind a dam, the disruption can lead to pain, lack of function, or illness.

Inserting acupuncture needles into these meridians is said to bring the energy flow back into proper balance.

Acupuncture therapy can release blocked qi in the body and stimulate function, evoking the body’s natural healing response through various physiological systems.

Acupuncture treatment uses very thin needles. Most people don’t feel any pain or discomfort upon inserting needles. The needles may cause temporary soreness, but most patients feel energized and relaxed after a session.

Am I A Good Candidate for An Acupuncture Session?

Acupuncture points work by helping the human body relieve pain and discomfort caused by a variety of conditions. These include:

  • Headaches such as tension headaches or migraines
  • Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
  • Dental pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Allergy rhinitis
  • Acute and chronic knee pain
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Menstrual cramps

The benefits of medical acupuncture point include:

  • Safe and non-invasive pain relief option, as long as it is performed by licensed acupuncture practitioners
  • Minimal side effects
  • It can be combined with other conventional treatments
  • A great alternative for patients who are unable to take conventional pain medications.

Soreness, minor bleeding, or bruising around the injection site are some of the most common side effects. A competent and certified acupuncture practitioner will use sterile needles to reduce these risks.

Not all people are suitable for acupuncture. There may be complications if you:

  • Have a bleeding disorder.
  • Use a pacemaker.
  • Are pregnant.
