Female and male menopause are both inevitable. While menopause symptoms vary depending on one’s health conditions, most people find the signs bothersome and uncomfortable.
Winter Wellness, a Flagstaff-based Naturopathic and Hormone Clinic, offers a variety of hormone replacement therapy for men and women, including hormone pellet therapy, to care for your hormonal issues.
Hormones regulate many aspects of life. Female hormones like estrogens are responsible for growth and development, sexual functions, and mood. Male hormones like testosterone are a key component of a man’s strength, energy, and stamina.
A balanced level of these hormones is essential for a healthy body and mind.
Hormone imbalance happens when hormone levels are too low or too high. These can lead to a variety of issues in your body’s normal functions including mood fluctuations and anxiety.
Both men and women can suffer from hormonal imbalances. If not treated, it may lead to worsening and possibly, even a disruption in the body’s ability to function properly.
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is a medication that contains FDA-approved bioidentical hormones. The medication is used to replace the estrogen that your body stops making in menopause (estrogen therapy).
Hormone therapy can be used to treat menopausal symptoms for most women, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and uncomfortable vaginal symptoms like dryness and pain during intercourse.
The treatment has also been proven to reduce bone loss and fracture in postmenopausal women.
Additionally, bioidentical hormone therapy is now available to address men’s hormonal concerns.
Testosterone, the primary male hormone, plays a vital role in a man’s musculoskeletal system and reproductive health. The lack of it leads to andropause (male menopause). Symptoms include lack of motivation, less self-confidence, decreased mental sharpness, weaker muscle strength, and erectile dysfunction.
Bioidentical Hormones have chemically the same structure as the hormones that your own body produces. Compounded prescriptions are preferred so they can be tailored to your specific needs.
Common Types prescribed: estradiol, estriol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and pregnenolone
Common Forms: topical creams, oral capsules, troches, and pellets
Whether your goal is prevention or replacement Dr. Erin Winter will evaluate your symptoms and laboratory tests to create a tailored treatment plan made specifically for you.
Pellets are tiny cylindrical-shaped medications that are compounded using biologically identical hormones (most often estradiol or testosterone).
They are placed just under the skin, while consistently releasing physiologic doses of bioidentical hormones.
The pellets are inserted subcutaneously (under the fatty lining of skin), either in the lower abdomen or upper buttocks through a minimal incision. The incision is then closed with sterile-tape strips.
Pellet insertion is a relatively simple in-office procedure done under local anesthesia here at Winter Wellness. The effects of pellet therapy can last 3-4 months in women and 5-6 months in men.
Bioidentical pellets have been shown to improve
