Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy

The more your body hurts the less you experience the things you love.

Regenerative medicine, such as prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, and acupuncture, may help you heal faster and be active sooner.

Eliminate the feeling of aging by regenerating and healing connective tissues that are essential for movements such as ligaments, tendons, and cartilage!

What is Prolotherapy (Regenerative Injection Therapy)?

Prolotherapy, also known as regenerative injection therapy (or proliferation therapy), is a non-surgical treatment for muscle and joint pain. It is commonly used to treat the lower back, as well as the other parts of the body:

  • Knees
  • Hips
  • Shoulders
  • Other joints, ligaments

Prolotherapy can be used to treat many conditions including back pain, neck pain, facet syndrome, whiplash, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, joint sprains, and more.

Unlike steroid injections and other pain relievers that only provide temporary benefits, this proven, safe treatment offers long-lasting benefits, such as:

  • Long-lasting pain relief
  • Reduced stiffness
  • Increased strength, function, and mobility of the joint
  • Stabilize ligaments and other tissues to increase strength

How Prolotherapy Injections Work

Prolotherapy is a procedure that aims to target inflamed joints or muscles by injecting an irritant solution of saline or dextrose. Your body may recognize the irritant, send immune cells and other chemicals which will trigger your body’s natural healing response.

This process helps repair damaged soft tissue in the injection site, such as nerves, blood vessels, and muscle tissue.

What’s in the solution?

Prolotherapy solutions include natural substances as well as anesthetics which can stimulate the healing response. At Winter Wellness, Dr. Erin Winter will tailor the best substance to suit the patient’s needs for fast recovery and long-lasting relief from pain.

Am I A Good Candidate for Prolotherapy Treatment?

Saline or dextrose prolotherapy injections are recommended to patients suffering from:

  • Chronic low back pain
  • Tendon injury
  • Hip pain
  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Knee Osteoarthritis
  • Sports injuries
  • Degenerative disc disease

Some people are not advised to undergo prolotherapy if they have certain health issues. This includes patients with:

  • Cellulitis
  • Septic arthritis
  • Abscess
  • Fracture
  • Gouty arthritis

Winter Wellness can help you determine if this is the right healing option for you and will give you a detailed plan on how to get your life back as soon as possible.

What can I expect from my Prolotherapy Treatment visit?

At Winter Wellness, we take time to fully understand our patient’s health concerns and the underlying causes of the patient’s condition. Dr. Erin Winter will conduct an initial health check-up and discuss your treatment options. She will make sure you understand everything you need to know about prolotherapy before proceeding with the procedure.

The actual procedure begins with the patient being placed on an examination table. Once the exam table is set up, the treatment area will be prepped, sterilized, and anesthetized (if necessary).

The entire prolotherapy appointment takes around 30 minutes. This includes preparation, treatment, recovery, and the actual procedure.  Most patients can return to work or their usual activities immediately after the procedure.
